The Airborne Series by Nordkapp

A breakdown of Nordkapp's high-performance RIB boats

Creating a RIB experience that pushes boundaries while honouring what makes these boats so beloved is no small feat. For us, it began with mastering the fundamentals before elevating what a RIB can offer. In this article, you'll uncover the innovations that set the Airborne series apart, gain exclusive insights from Aksel Lund Svindal, and explore how each model is purpose-built for adventure.

Understanding the RIB Boat

The basics of a RIB consist of a lightweight hull and inflatable tubes, these boats are built for performance, safety and ease of use. Their design offers exceptional manoeuvrability, making them ideal for a wide range of activities—from coastal exploration and adrenaline-fueled water sports to practical commuting.

RIBs are designed for spontaneity. With their quick setup and reliable handling, they're perfect for seizing the moment, whether embarking on a short trip to the inner archipelago or heading out for an extended day on the water.

Evolving the RIB

By first focusing on the basics, we ensured an authentic RIB experience. The next step was to push the boundaries forward without losing sight of the core principles. The two primary focus points were to optimise the ride with a different take on the tube design and to add an increased focus on comfort.

A defining detail of the Airborne series is the asymmetric tube design, which gives these boats a distinct look while enhancing performance. The Hypalon tubes, resting above the water's surface, provide less water resistance and more even G-force distribution.

This was an intentional design choice to bypass a common problem in RIB boats: When performing high-speed manoeuvres, the G-force often pushes you to the sides, negatively impacting the sense of control and comfort. With the asymmetric tube design, the G-force pulls downward instead of sideways. This makes you feel glued to your seat at high speeds.

An essential focus for the Airborne series was blending elegance with practicality. This extends beyond aesthetics, placing emphasis on the overall experience. With carefully selected materials, large swimming platforms, sunbeds, and vast access to amenities, the Airborne redefine the comfort a RIB can offer.

Airborne Owner Story: Aksel Lund Svindal

Aksel Lund Svindal, the renowned Norwegian alpine skier and Nordkapp ambassador, has spent countless hours aboard the Airborne series. With his Airborne 7 always ready at the dock, it has become his go-to for spontaneous outings. Now, as he plans to upgrade to the Airborne 8 in 2025 to accommodate his growing family, Aksel reflects on the experiences that have made these boats an essential part of his life.

For Aksel, the Airborne series perfectly captures the essence of the RIB experience: "The ride is smooth and capable of delivering a sporty performance when the mood strikes," he says. "The way these boats handle in the water always puts a smile on my face," he adds.

The design is another standout feature for him. "The hull design and the asymmetrical tubes give the Airborne its character. You can recognise it from far away," he notes, reflecting on how these elements set the boats apart visually and functionally.

Aksel also values the Airborne's ease of use, highlighting how quickly they can be ready for action. "Jumping into your Airborne, it takes very little time before you're ready to go," he explains. From there, the boat adapts effortlessly to any plan, whether it's a relaxing cruise or the thrill of pushing the throttle. "The Airborne works perfectly in both scenarios," he adds.

Finally, Aksel emphasises the Airborne's appeal to novice and experienced drivers. "You can expect a boat that's easy to handle," he says, while noting its potential for more spirited rides. "At the same time, these boats give you clear signs that they are highly capable if you want to go faster."
